I bought a Commodore 16 off of Ebay

I bought a Commodore 16 off of Ebay for $26.  What I paid isn't the end of the world.  I noticed that one of the stickers underneath the computer was loose and on crooked.  Does this indicate that the unit was opened or worked on?

In the past, Commodore said that the warrenty was void if the consumer opened the unit.  What criteria did they use to determine if a unit was opened or worked on?  Did they use screws that stripped when you tried to remove them?

I dont know what their

I dont know what their critera really was, I can tell you that we caught the RMA department shipping units to their homes and got canned as a department.

Warrantee stuff

EEK.. sticky fingers - nasty.  Then again, by the time the C16 was out, morale wouldn't have been stellar at Commdore.
I don't believe there were any "warrantee seals" on the C64/C16 cases, only on Plus4 (and similar).

Back when the C16 was prevalent, I had a great sideline modding the C16's to 64K - it was a simple matter of swapping out the 2 RAM chips for their 4464 cousins, unstrapping the A14 and A15 assignments on the MUXs, and feeding A14 and 15 to them using wire-wrap. Australia seemd flooded with them for a while. The power supplies were crap though, loved going over-voltage, just like the potted C64 PSU's.
edit: scratch that - was getting their PSU's confused with the C64C PSU's

Loved that machine - it was so easy to work on. I went looking for my PLUS4 the other day in storage, but couldn't find it - it's in there somewhere :( :(

LOL... yes that is the process for 16k -> 64k -> 16k

I buy and restore (well technically mod I suppose) all things commodore as a hobby. I have never been able to buy a c16 without upgrading to 64k. They sit there with 16k, missing out on all of that potential plus/4 glory, it's a sad sight - and now Jiffydos is available for it again, how can you possibly resist. They are just crying out for an upgrade.

At least Commodore didn't

At least Commodore didn't drill out the memory locations like they did on earlier PETSs to keep them from being upgraded by dealers!

That's true - I do have a

That's true - I do have a soft spot for the PET series though. I learned to program on one. I think the c16 and the 264 series in general have always had a bit of a tough press. When you take all of the commodore politics and the eventual release price out of the way, they are good little machines and TED is a pretty solid chip :)
